Nicely Done Designs challenges

Hi everyone,

I took a few days off for posting in my Blog because I was getting ready for Christmas and my oldest son, from out of town, visited for a week.  If you're a mother or grandma you know your children never get too old!  You still want to mother them, cook for them and make sure they are comfortable. Christmas was happy and sad at times.  But I made it thru!  "Thank the Lord!"  He is truly merciful!

I did get some crafting done.  One of my projects was chosen as one of the winning designs at www.nicelydonedesigns.blogspot.com., one of Chana's new blogs.  I have been invited for a GD spot for the challenge that will start on January 5th. In addtion, I will get to create a Mystery Box plus create a project for that challenge.  Go and check out her new blog.  The challenges are creatively challenging and alot of fun.

I think I'm going to be more creatively busier this year than last year.

I made this Triple Easel card using a rubber stamped Medallion as the focal point.  This is for the Dec.22-Jan. 4th Mystery Box challenge.  Our project was to include: Glitter, brads, tags, kraft paper and rubber stamp.

I used My Minds Eye kraft paper for the card base.
Regular kraft paper was used for the basket weaved section(done by hand).
The rubber stamp medallion is from Stamplistic.

Thank you for stopping by.  Have a Happy New Year!

Mojo Monday 272

              Hi crafting Buddies,

I think I'm still in shock from the death of the children and teachers in Connecticut.  This should never, ever have to happen to a parent or child.  No way do I know what they are feeling.  I pray that I will never have to experience a pain that deep and agonizing.  Love your children, husband, sisters, brothers, mother and father.  Pray without ceasing.

Today I decided to do MOJO MONDAY sketch 272.  It looked pretty easy and this is going to be the last Christmas card I make for this season.

Thanks for stopping by.  Now go and create!

Nicely Done Design Challenge #1

Good afternoon fellow crafters.  Just got home from Church.  My Pastor preached a good sermon on having a love for others as Jesus has for us.  "A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another."  John 13:34
Boy, now I know you know that can be hard sometimes!  LOL
I'm a work in progress and with His help someday I will arrive at that level.

Well, you know, I can't go a day without getting into "Edie's Craft lab," so here I am.  I finished a project/challenge that was created for www.nicelydonedesigns.bogspot.com, Chana's new blog.

We were to make a card or a paper item including these contents: Buttons, Twine, Handmade flowers, and Corrugated cardboard.  It wasn't as difficult as I had thought.  Here's my entry:

Handmade Art Journal

I painted the Corrugated cardboard with Acrylic paint.  The flowers are made from an egg container, cut into the form of a flower then painted with acrylic paints. I must give credit to a video I saw on you tube showing how to make these flowers.  It was not my idea. Buttons were used for the flowers centers, then they were covered with Distress stickles.  I made a bow with the twine.  The memories word was a diecut from my Cricut.

I used my Cinch to make it into a Mini Art Journal. This project really stimulated my creativity.

Thanks for stopping by.  Leave a comment if you desire to.

Word Wednesday Art

This is a perfect scripture for this time of the year.  It's really not what you give or how much you give.  It's how you give it and the joy and excitement others receive.

But most of all: JESUS IS THE REASON FOR THE SEASON

FNC over at Scraps of colors

I was Friday Night Challenge host at http://scrapsofcolor.ning.com/  11/30.  It was my first experience as an host and I kinda' enjoyed it.  It kept me pretty busy.  I was trying to chat and keep the challenges going, and threw in a few fun questions for prizes.  I was so happy with the ladies that participated and hung in there.  I know they were tired.  My theme was SHOPPING.  One of the things I do that gives me much pleasure.
The challenges included making a gift card, greeting card and altering a gift bag by the end of the night. A digital image or Die cut or photo of shopping/gift bags had to be inclued on the tag.  These are the inspiration projects I posted to stimulate their creativity.

Small gift tag with the words TO and FROM

Large gift tag with the words: TO and FROM

Greeting card included Christmas wrapping paper

Altered gift bag- same Christmas wrapping paper was used to decorate bag

It turned out to exhausting but fun.(my projects were made earlier)  Check Scrap of colors gallery to see what the other ladies came up with.

The Outlawz Monday Greeting card

Hi everyone, I have been incredibly busy as you can see, I haven't posted since 11/28.  I've got so many things going on at the same time.  I'm beginning to ask myself, "Edie are you doing too much?"  I don't want to take the joy I recieve from creating and turn it into an obligation.  I'm in trouble then because it stiffles my creativity.  I've got notepads all over the place to help me remember what my scheduled assignments are.  I need to invest in a large chalkboard able to hold my entire months schedules.  Then it's in plain view and I can write what I need to do and erase what has been completed.
Chana from The Outlawz challenge has a new blog: www.nicelydonedesigns.blogspot.com.  Go check it out!

Below is my Monday Greeting card entry, my Design Team inspiration for this week, at The Outlawz challenges.  We were to use eyelets or an eye in our project.  For some reason I felt I wanted to make a male card embellishing it with the eyelets.  I think it came out pretty cute. Some little man is going to get this for a birthday card.

Okay, got to go!  Got more projects to do.  I appreciate you all for viewing and leaving a comment.

Santa's Drawers

Ladies, I fell in love with this tutorial project. I found it at   http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/resources/tutorials/santasdrawers/.  It's called Santa's Drawers.
It is the cutest thing.  I just had to make it of course.  The little drawers pull out and I guess you can fill them with candy or any other treat or gift that will fit.  You can make this age appropriate.  For children you can use a more juvenile paper print.  You can make it for any occasion or holiday:  Christmas, Birthday's, Anniversaries or any gift-giving occasion.  Check out my version.  Remember this is my first attempt.  I guarantee you the next one will be perfect.

I think I need to take a course in Staging or Display. I'm working on it.  I'm not sure what I'm going to use it for.  I might just put it on the shelf and look at.

Thanks for taking the time to stop by and look.  It's really appreciated!

Monday Greeting card - Outlawz challenge 11/30

Good morning all you lovely people.  I hope your weekend was prosperous for you... emotionally, spiritually, or financially.  I was involved in a business experience this weekend with a Jewelry artist by the name of Jahmilla Sims. She is located here in Chicago.   Her companies name is Moonjellie Creations, Inc.  I was so impressed because she is a young black lady that exemplifies a real entrepreneural spirit.  She had an idea in her head and she didn't let anyone stop her or prevent her from accomplishing what she wanted to do.
She rented a Hotel meeting room which was set up to display her beautiful jewelry items for sale and invited other crafty people she knew, to come exhibited their items for sale.  Basically it was very well organized from her advertisements to raffle giveaways at the end of  the affair.
She is someone to watch because she is on the move upward!

I was also able to complete my Monday project for www.outlawzchallenges.com.  Our challenge for this Monday Greeting card was to make a card with the color orange as the main color or include oranges in our design. I chose to use one of the images from Eureka stamps.  I chose the Butterfly/flower image because this gave me a chance to brush up on my coloring skills with my copic markers.  (I get lazy at times) I think I did okay.  Still have to work on that shading technique.  I enhanced my butterfly with a liquid embossing. (difficult to see in the photo)I added a cloth doily that was spray painted with Lindy's stamp gangs Coffee Bean Copper.  I added my bling and Iamroses flowers and this is the results:

Non-traditional Thanksgiving card

Good morning everyone.  I hope you all had a good nights sleep.  I've got several things in my life that have caused me to be concened, but I'm not going to worry about them.  I have prayed over them and put them in the Lord's hand.  Surely He will give me the strength to deal with them.

Below is my first card entry as a Design Team member in Mondays Greeting challenges on The Outlawz challenges.  I submitted this card (non-tradional Thanksgiving card) hoping to show that all Thanksgiving cards don't have to have turkeys or cornicopia's on them.

I hope you all have a wonderful  Thanksgiving Holiday!  DON'T EAT TOO MUCH!

Wooden Coasters

It's 12:30 at nite or a.m. and I'm still up puttering around in my craft room.  I just finished making these coaster out of some wooden floor sample pieces I got at Home Depot, several years ago. I think they were free at the time.  When I saw them at the store, I just knew I could use them for something.
I think they will make cute Christmas presents for friends and co-workers.  I'm going to try to sell them at another Craft fair I'm participating in this weekend.

These are the supplies I used:
Gloss Modge Podge and Liquid embossing for the coating
4 Wooden floor sample pieces
12   1/2" Vinyl bumpers and 4 round mosaic pieces to support the coasters
Sharpie brown wood touch-up markers
Hot glue gun and glue sticks
Flowers and trim for embellishing
Graphic 45 8x8 papers from the Tropical Traveloque collection
Vellum sentiments

The wood pieces measured 3 1/2x 4 7/8 inches.  I used the Gloss mod podge to adhere the paper to the pieces after I painted the edges of the wood pieces with the brown marker.

I then added some vellum sentiments to the surface (not shown here) and applied another layer of Modge podge on one of the blocks.  I used liquid embossing on the other blocks for a higher shine.

I used vinyl bumpers and mosaic circles as supports.

I embellished each with flowers and trim and here are the end results.  I Luv, Luv, Luv them!

Well I guess I can turn in now.  I feel like I have really accomplished something.  One of these days I'm going to reach out of my comfort zone and make a video.

Nite all!

Christmas cards

Hi fellow crafters, I'm back again.  Boy have I been busy.  I've been making Christmas cards and packs to sell.  My sister has requested her usual 10, and I've made some to sell at another upcoming Craft event.  Of course I have to make my own to send out because everyone of my friends and relatives expects handmade cards from me.  I'm sure it's the same for you!

These pictures are just a few of the cards I made:

I find that when I sell my cards in a pack of 4 (all are the same) they seem to sell better.

I entered this card in Monday greeting card challenge at www.outlawzchallenges.ning.com  Its made up of things from your stashes.

Well I think I've got a good start don't you?  I'm sure I'll probably will be making more before Christmas gets here.

Thanks Ladies for stopping by, leave a comment letting me know what you think.

LUV,
Edie

Send A Smile 4 Kids -Early Holiday Wishes 4 Kids

Well, I finally got enticed into making Christmas cards.  I just really didn't want to start making them until November.  "I've got orders already!"

Well, because I have been participating in alot of challenges, I came across this blog:  http://www.sendasmile4kidschallenge.blogspot.com.  I visited it and read the Challenge rules and Guidelines and felt this is a worthy cause.  So now I will be making cards for their challenges then mailing them off to the Children Hospitals they have listed.  They will be given to the sick children through out the year, hoping to brighten up their spirits.  The children can also give a card to a loved one, teacher or healthcare worker they want to thank.

So this is one of the 1st cards I will enter into the challenge, then mail it off.  I must remember to keep them kid friendly.

I've had this image for quite a while.  Can't remember where it came from.  I think I'm going to be pretty busy.  See you later!

RAK of Chicago Luncheon

Here we are, RAK (random act of kindness)of Chicago, my crafting buddies out to lunch this week-end. We went to the Habatchi Grill in Matheson.  The food is delicious. Arethra, one of our members treated us.  She says it's cheaper and less hassle to take us out to eat instead of treating us at her home.  I agree!!!  We each take turns hosting our meetings each month

Rosemary, Jackie, Aretha, Rita, Barbara, Kim (President), Larell, Me and Pam.  Evelyn and Toi couldn't make it.
The other photo shows what our President, Kim Jones, made for each of us.  Our swap for the month of September was to make something useful and creative for each member.  She made each of these items and they are beautiful.  Lotta work!  Thanks Kim!!!

We are planning on hosting our first Crop.  It will probably be sometime next year, but plans are in the works.

Luv Yu!

Perfect Sentiment challenge PSC53B

Hi crafting buddies,  I had the best and busiest weekend.  I can't believe all that I got done.  Plus on  top of that I went to the movies.  You got to go see the movie Argo.  It  had me sitting on the edge of my seat.  Ben Afflect directed or produced and starred in it.  Great exciting flick!

I went shopping, went out to lunch, attended my Quilt club event, did laundry and attended Church.
I did not have to cook the entire week-end.  I hate to cook, in case anybody didn't know that!

One of my sons (and his girfiend) took his nephews (my 2 grandsons) to Great America Saturday for rides and the Halloween event (I'm not into Halloween) and they stayed over nite at his house. (not the girfriend)....LOL    I bearly saw them all week-end.

"I was a free women!!!!"
So what does a free women do when she has time?  I made 1 card!  I happened to visit the blog: http://www.perfectsentimentschallenge.blogspot.com and decided to enter this card in it.  It's a Bingo challenge.

I chose the top horizontal spots: Pearls around her neck and left wrist, green ribbon embellishments and a flower in her hair with Happy birthday sentiment. She is singing Stevie Wonders song.  A Robert Jackson image was used.
Well at least I got one card done this week-end.

So long crafters, thanks for stopping by!

Word art Wednesday 10/17/12

Hi Crafters, gettin' a late start today.  Had to pick my 12 year old grandson up from school and take him for his routine doctor's visit.  He received some bad news.  Looks like he's going to have to stop playing Football or any other running sport until he gets xray's and a reason for the knee pain.  His Pediatrician is recommending no active sports at this time! He is heart broken.  I'm going to suggest Swimming, but I don't think that will replace Football and Basketball.  I will continue to pray.  God can work miracles.

I was able to make this Knob hanger for Word Art Wednesday.  I just love the scriptures they pick each Wednesday.

The material I used are all from my scrap piles.  The praying hands is a rubber stamp I've had for years.  I used ny copics to color it.  The little gifts (at the bottom) are Die cuts from Cricut cart.-Forever Young, and Spellbinders Nestabilities Ovals.

Okay ladies, dinner time, must go.
Thanks for looking.

Mojo Monday 263

I just love their ( www.mojomonday.blogspot.com) sketches.  I can't believe how quickly I made this card.  See, all I need is a little incentive.

Thanks folks at Mojo Monday.  It's fun, even if I don't win anything.

This card will also be entered in 365 cards blogsite  for Favorite Things.

Greeting Card

Hi everyone, did you rest this week-end or catch-up on some stuff you've been ignoring for a long time?  Well with my other activities like, attending my grandson's football game, Quilting club meeting, Church meeting and assisting with grandson's school project, I was still able to get some cards done.   I'm kinda' getting the hang of using your cards for dual challenges.  Boy, does that save time and makes it possible to enter more challenges.  Luv It!

This card will be entered in:
Girlfriends Relay challenge-Image #5 at http://www.scrapsofcolor.ning.com
The Outlawz challenge-Monday Greetings challenge 10/15 at  http://outlawzchallenges.ning.com

That sentiment is not my own.  It came with another Digi image and I just can't remember which one, right now.
This is a Robert Jackson image.
Stop by, take a look!  Have a blessed day!

Mema's Crafts: Challenge #3 Animals Gone Wild

This is my final entry for  Mema's challenges on www.memascrafts.blogspot.com.  I hope I can use it in other challenges.

I decided to use wild animals as my creatures to showcase.

First I got a $1.00 composition book (I always keep these on hand)

Then I selected the Designer paper I wanted for the cover of the book.  I chose DCWV's  Safari Chic stack.  The papers are gorgeous in this collection.

After I covered my book, I then started making my embellishments.  To keep the Safari theme, I chose  Hemp twine to thread the edges of the added paper.

I then finished it off with the added embellishments you see in the photo.

I think it turned out pretty nice.  What do you think?  This is going to be a Christmas gift for someone.  I'm giving handmade gifts to everyone this year.

Now let me go and see what other challenges  I can enter this in.  If you know of any, let me know.

Thanks for stopping by!

Image Bookmarks

Good morning crafter's!  I must admit that these bookmarks are not my idea. I was inspired when I saw Toi Pickett's on www.scrapsofcolor.ning.com.  Check out her work in her photo gallery.  She is a member of my craft club, RAK of Chicago and she is a multi-talented lady.

I'm having dinner with some of my previous bible study group members and I thought this would be a friendly gesture.  You know when you're a crafter, you always feel like you have to give something handmade to people.  At least that's how I feel!

Anyway, thanks for taking a look.

Oh, I almost forgot.  The image is one from http://www.fineartsbyrobertjackson.com.

Oct. 9th Color challenge CC1009

This is my entry for the color challenge on The Outlawz:

We were to use the colors: red, black and yellow with a travel twist on the card.  "Boy, do I wish I was in Paris right now!"
